Pam Gilberg, Hartland, WI, US

Hi fellow rust junkies,
Im a single parent of 2 grown sons; great kids who Im sure would never admit that their mom picks up rusty things on the side of the road. My day job is working in the equine/farm insurance business. I love to ride and wish I owned a horse, but thats not in the cards right now. Some day.

My passions are art and junking... I play with collage and assemblage art as a hobby and love hunting for supplies at flea markets. The hunt is most of the fun, actually - I have far more ingredients than I have finished projects. I love architectural salvage, anything with great patina, quirkiness, old hardware. I also have a fondness for beat-up slightly creepy dolls or toys, which my friends dont understand.. but hey, someones gotta take those things home.

My favorite junk spots are the flea markets in Elkhorn WI, Kane County, IL, and Oronoco MN. The Oronoco pilgrimage I look forward to all year. (And the homemade ice cream sandwiches are to die for).

Im always inspired by all the talented, creative people on this site. I wish I had more things posted - Im workin on it.

Re: Ski Lodge Headboard

Very cool project - but the first thing that caught my eye was the Big Boy guy on the shelf - I thought those were just floating around Wisconsin! He was the symbol for Marc's Big Boy restaurants, which closed in the 60's or 70's I think. I thought they were only in WI, not sure. I have one too - he's a fun reminder of my childhood. (you could make your own chocolate milk at Big Boy - we thought that was the greatest thing ever!)

Re: Unique "Black Dot" Foundry Mold Table

Very cool!

Re: Stop the Draft!

When I saw this post, I immediately thought "This has got to be one of Jim's" because of those beautiful saturated colors. I thought it was an old gameboard too - I don't know how you have the patience to do all the masking for that type of design, I sure wouldn't. I love the distressing... how did you do that, beat it with a chain?? (now that I could do) Another awesome project, great job!

Re: Kitchen Redo

That is absolutely great, it's turning out beautiful - beadboard is one of my favorites, I had no idea they made wallpaper like that - think of all the possibilities. Great job!

Re: "Record" setting transformation...

What an awesome, interesting piece - 1,001 uses! Love the colors of the plates with the rust. I hope I find something that cool when junk season starts. Someone told me a good way to clean/preserve rusty stuff is to use linseed oil. Have any of you done that?

Re: A Day at the Beach
