What is this?

Does anyone know what this was originally supposed to be? I thought maybe it was a plant stand, but the hook doesn't really stick out far enough to accomodate a hanging pot/basket. It's also kind of short for a hand towel hook in a bathroom or kitchen (uness it's up on a table). It's only 30 inches tall and made of iron or something. I'm sure I will come up with a use for it, but was just curious about what it actually was for. Thanks for any ideas!
