Boys new corner office.  He has been in love with ancient things since he was 2.  We found the Egypt poster in a KY antique mall and knew he had to have it!
The old desk with a few of his Pez on top.
Why was this in the trash - I mean the seat did not look like this but really, it is perfectly sturdy and groovy!
Meant to sell this lamp but since it has a purpose we get to keep it! YIPPEE!!

I've been feeling like George Peppard's character Hannibal from The A Team recently.  Remember his catch phrase, "I love it when a plan comes together"?

Our nine year old has been using a child size roll-top desk I found at the Salvation Army many years ago.It works well enough but I notice that his legs keep getting longer and the desk fails to grow with him.Husband said, "He's got to have a bigger one - it's time."I know, I know but a)really can't spend the money on that right now and b)I loathe all that new particle board junk so readily available.

This boy is a character and his room should reflect that.So a few weeks pass and then I find it.A fabulous vintage metal filing cabinet with fold out table/desk portion.Score!!!The perfect size to easily take him through the rest of school (the computers just keep getting smaller and smaller) and reminiscent of the mammoth metal desk he recently saw that he wanted but was WAY too large for his room.

Somehow he and I maneuvered that into the trunk of my 2 door sedan (I have GOT to get a bigger car).Cleaned it out, unstuck the bottom drawer and placed it in his room.Ah...but the chair.Got to get a chair.Oh wait...off I run down to the garage where I pull out the nifty vintage armchair I rescued from the trash four months ago.Oh they do look good together.Cleaned it up, recovered the seat and added a thrift store lamp we had purchased a few weeks before which blended in with the whole retro office look.

Total cost for this overhaul was: $10 for the desk, $3 for the lamp, $5 for fabric to recover the chair.Even if he hates it in a year how can you go wrong for an $18 redo!!

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!
