Given a choice of old vs new, I will always choose old. Well-loved items have more character.

Re: Collinsville Trade Day

Collinsville Trade Day is a hold-over from lost times, and when they say the market starts at 4 a.m., they mean it. The true bargains are sold very early in the day. Go without pre-conceived notions of what you'd like to find and you'll enjoy yourself. There are antiques and vintage items, but this is also one of those markets where you'll find anything from kitschy junk to chickens and puppies. People watching is teriffic fun here. Timing a Saturday visit to Collinsville Trade Day to coincide with a Sunday visit to Scottoboro's First Monday Market is my idea of a perfect weekend.

Re: First Monday Trade Day

First Monday Trade Day in Scottsboro is my favorite Alabama fleamarket. The little town of Scottsboro has such an authentic small-town Southern atmosphere and you'll never see lower prices for vintage items. I highly recommend that out of state visitors check it out.

Re: Birmingham Fairgrounds Flea Market

The fleamarket at the Birmingham Fairgrounds is the best in the Birmingham area. Don't let the area of town discourage you from visiting. I've found some fantastic bargains there.
