My name is Kathy, and Im a junkaholic - there, I said it...feeling much better now!

I was born to junk - always begging things from my grandma, and collecting rocks and avon bottles when I was little... I refinished my first piece of furniture when I was 18 - and havent stopped re-doing things since...
My friend, Terri, and I buy old furniture and great vintage junk - and paint, repurpose, etc. - and resell it at some fleamarkets in Ohio, and a few customers in central Ohio - we have a blast - always on the hunt for something! (Would love to quit my day job and do it fulltime!) We take girl trips (or junkets) every summer with two of our bestest friends, and have traveled into Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana - and of course - all over Ohio - one of our most fun trips was the Worlds Longest Yard Sale (250 miles thru Kentucky/Tennessee) four years ago. Next year, were planning on the 200-mile sale in Michigan (see you then, LuAnn!!).

My hubby is fairly understanding of my addiction - but says well never be able to move - too much stuff (I think not!!). My daughter shops my basement when she comes home to visit...(shes her mothers daughter for sure!!).

My personal style is cottage/beachy/shabby chic - with a little of this and that mixed in... I love to garden and am a collector of many things (my friend says if you have three of something its a collection - so...yep, Ive got a few!) Of course my favorite thing to do is hunt for additions to my collections (and pieces of interesting junk to play with) at fleamarkets, garage sales, thrift stores, antique shops - and sometimes its just dropped at my doorstep (friends and neighbors - gotta love em!) I collect pottery (mostly white - Haeger, Hull, etc.), vintage beach stuff - especially beach oil paintings, vintage jewelry, child-size chairs, and lots of other stuff! :)

Love the JunkMarket (aka Junkaholics Anonymous) - a great support group for junkaholics - HOWEVER, were not looking for a cure - just a whole lotta support!! Thanks to Sue for throwing us together.

God Bless!

P.S. Just a thought...

Junkers Creed

This is actually the creed of the postal service, but I think it fits SO perfectly for us junkers...

And neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, nor the winds of change, nor a nation challenged, will stay us from the swift completion of our appointed rounds. Ever.

Aint it the truth??? Have a great day & happy junking!

Re: I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas....

Thanks everybody! I love the pink in this room too - and silver and pink - a perfect combination! The tree is fun, and just an inspiring little corner of the room. My girlfriends love it too!

It is definitely a bit girlie (tiny flowers on the wall), but when we moved into our home, this room had been the daughter's room, and it worked SO well for me - I didn't want to change it. Just added a new border (it had been little bunnies).

Sharon - Go Buckeyes...Rose Bowl bound!! :)

Cocalotta - thanks for your nice comments too!

Merry Christmas!

Kathy

FYI - I got the pink tree at Hobby Lobby...

Re: Christmas Vacation

Jim...you light up our lives...with all your awesome vintage creations!! Your tree is unbelievable - from the pennants (they are "over the top" cool!!), to the pedal car (my hubby would love that...), to the glass insulator to top it all off (clever idea my friend!!).

Where did you find all those pennants??? Everybody is going to want some!!! (Santa??? Are you there???)

Have the merriest Christmas!!

Kathy

Re: How To Make A Santa Snow Globe

Kimberly,

Who doesn't LOVE Santa Claus??? And you've "captured" this one in such a fun way! What a great project for kids (definitely with adult supervision, right??). You've given us great instructions on the "how to" of this project. And, the possibilities for different "subjects" is endless...snowmen, angels, birds, cartoon characters, super heros - (and speaking of super heroes (in our junk world) how about a mini-Sue with a piece of junk in one hand, and Gorilla Glue in the other)... Thought I'd get a laugh from Miss Sue!!! :)

So, in the spirit of the holiday and winter season - I've chosen this as my FAVORITE project by my friend Kimberly!

During our trip to "Minnesnowta" this past summer, Candy and I had the pleasure of meeting some of our JMS contributors and members, and we got to spend some time (not enough though...right Kimberly??) with Kimberly. She and her mother-in-law graciously hosted us on their boat one evening - where we shared lots of laughs, a sunset and a wonderful lakeside dinner. In addition to helping to entertain us, she was also having a garage sale the same weekend - which we of course had to visit and shop a bit! (And, yes...there was some awesome "junk" there!)

It was so much fun getting to know Kimberly and the Minnesota gang... It's a great memory, and a reminder...we have to plan for next year!!!

Looking forward to more of your clever projects - and your great junk style in 2010!

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year my friend!

Kathy

Merry Christmas!

Kathy

Re: A Ho-Ho - Whole lotta Christmas Junk!

Thanks ladies - for all your comments and holiday wishes!

Pulling out my Christmas stuff is always interesting (and a little scary)........somehow my collection grows a little each year (not sure how I do that - must be little elves out shopping and leaving things for me I guess - ha ha!)...

Anyway - I think that little hay unloader will have many happy holidays (and seasons) in its future. And the rusty clock case - too much fun.

Oh, and by the way, the next thing up for auction will be my trusty, rusty test tube holder (sorry, just kidding). It's another great piece with lots of possibilities (this purchase was inspired by my junking friend Candy). And, Alice...your offer is very tempting! :)

Kenda - thanks! I've gotten behind in my reading, but looking forward to catching up in the next day or so.

Take care, Kathy

Thanks All! We always have a blast at this show (even if we had to do a "speed" set up on Friday). The clocks were the star of our space - so, we're looking forward to the January show (with plenty more to sell). We ran out of space, and had boxes of great stuff we couldn't even put out (so...guess we're more than ready for January!).

Sue - love your festive red container - and it's so perfect to show off some holiday greenery too...

Miss Lily is probably having big fun in the midst of your holiday decorating - she's such a cutie!! Takes her mind off the tree watching, right?? :)

OK - in my boredom this morning...I "googled" the model number of your container to find out what it was used for(weird, right???)...anyway, the website (Eagle Manufacturing) says: "EAGLE Galvanized Steel Oily Waste Cans offer fire safe temporary storage of solvent, waste rags, shavings and other materials subject to spontaneous combustion." So, I know this will be of tremendous help to you in deciding what to do with it next...(no charge for this service - ha ha).

Well...I'm sure I've been a big help today!! I'm going back to work now!

OK...first - so glad you've let us into your "inner circle" - so much fun to see your collections! :)

Second - I see some of my collections here too...clocks (ha ha - no surprise - and ever growing...), bottle stoppers (LOVE them), and bottles. Other round things I collect are rag balls, buttons, Christmas ornament bulbs, dresser mirrors, yikes - this is getting scary!

Can't wait to see what you do with all the great stuff in the first picture...

Sue - thanks for sharing!

Andrea - I love your tablescape - such a great collection of unused things turned into a beautiful table setting! The music sheets are so perfect as placemats (they could even be laminated or maybe decoupaged to be reused...). I also love the old light fixture as a bud vase, the doorknobs, etc., etc.... I'm sure your friends had a fabulous time - and had lots of junk to talk about!!

Take care, Kathy

We spent today picking up even more...and now we've got a little Fort "Clox" of inventory. Right now I'm testing some...so things are really ticking at my house (and a random alarm goes off now and then too...)! (most of them work, but some will be just for looks)

OK - you guys are cracking me up...I'm guessing if I had a clock party you'd all want to come, right??? hmmmmmmmm.... :) It was definitely like a dream - a bit overwhelming, but we were up to the task!!

It was pretty exciting - and now we're trying to study up on our finds (need a copy of "clocks for dummies"), to know exactly what we have. You'll have to check my blog for info on stuff we'll be "parting with"... (gailmarie - there will be faces...) Lani - would love to help you add to your collection!

Marie - the curbside finds were pretty cool too. My basement is screaming to be emptied out SOON! Good thing we have a show next month!

Thanks for all your comments and remember...ya never know when that "dream sale" will happen - that's why we all keep looking! :)

Re: UPSIDE DOWN HANGING LAMP

grannijo, Love your version!! You did a great job repurposing your light fixture (and great price too!) - it's too funny, but I have a light fixture sitting on my workbench waiting for the perfect piece to top it off (it's brass and really needs to be painted) - the inspiration just keeps going round and round!! :)

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

OK - I guess I'll "have" to start scheduling at least a small get-together for sure!

1. Candy is scheduled to be our next door neighbor - her first time as a vendor at Springfield - I'm SO excited!! (And, Candy - hope to see you at Scott's...let's talk!)

2. LuAnn - Springfield Extravaganza will be the 3rd weekend of May...

3. Lani - we may need to get some rooms reserved!

4. Jim - it's closer than Minnesota...does that help? :)

5. Suewannabeinkc - yep - we're in Ohio - here's the website: http://www.springfieldantiqueshow.com/

6. I better start putting together a mailing list - and we can start thinking about our little Buckeye JUNK party!

And thanks all for your nice comments about our projects - I've started to work on some new "junk" for our November show (it really never ends...thank goodness!!)

Kathy

P.S. Janis - Terri has collaged for a while, and I just started (I made three new ones over the weekend) - they're so much fun.

Re: Organ Pipe Photo Holders

OK - I know you're shopping at some secret junk hideaway somewhere in the woods of Minnesota - where the heck do ya find stuff like that?? ha ha!! Those are so COOL! And, of course - I love what you did with them (and tie clips to hold the photos...sweet!!!)

Happy Monday to you! And thanks for sharing!!!

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

Thanks ladies! Midge - glad you've got your calendar marked - looking forward to your visit! Maybe we'll have to have a bit of a "junk potluck"!

Kim - I bought this old paperweight (empty) at an estate sale - and added the buttons, cut a circle out of a piece of a vinyl wallcovering sample that I got from work, and glued it to the bottom. The paperweights are cool because they magnify the contents. Gretchen gave me the idea of using them and I decided to do buttons in this one - I think she had done some for an occasional sale. Hoping to find more...

Kathy

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - some of our stuff...Part III

Thanks! We have too much fun (if that's possible) with all of our "stuff"!

My fingers are crossed too - hoping for a caravan of members at Springfield in the spring! :) We'll be at the Scott Antique Show in Columbus, Ohio on Thanksgiving weekend - if anyone's nearby!

Hope you're having a great weekend - leaving now to check out a couple garage sales (the season is winding down...darn...!).

Re: Springfield Extravaganza - Part II - so much to see and so little time!

Thanks everybody - for coming along to Springfield! I think I could just travel the countryside - reporting from show to show...how cool would that be (and be able to buy a little along the way as well).

First...I agree - the clown is a little creepy (the more I look at him, the more he reminds me of that clown in the Stephen King movie..."It"). But he was unique!!! (thank goodness!)

Janis - as far as prices - this show runs from garage sale finds to fine antiques - but our prices in Ohio (and surrounding states) are definitely lower than other parts of the country (so, it's definitely worth a trip for collectors or people looking to re-sell). And, thanks for the info on the shoe scraper - I can see that...

gailmarie & Jim - the green cabinet was in a friend's booth - I admired it from afar! And, I didn't buy any of the globes, but wish I would have. Sue will be checking in here - so, she'll hear about her twin! :)

Karen - you're welcome - it's always great to see new members with new ideas to share - looking forward to more of your posts!

Anita - hope to see you there next year - the list of Buckeye Junkers is growing! ...and Candy - I'm working on it - the more the merrier!! ;)

...there's one more post to go!

Kathy

P.S. Thanks for the comments about my pic - it was time for a change - my friend said I needed to get rid of the bib overalls - I don't know...I kind of liked them!

So, what you gonna do with the rest of them??? (inquiring minds want to know...)

Great save my friend!!

Kathy

Re: Serving up a "light" snack - vintage junk-style!

gailmarie, Joanne & snowyowl...thanks for your comments. I just have too much fun with all this "junk" - but can you really have to much junk fun?? I don't think so! :)

Please check out Laurel's version of the serving dish - actually a few of them - they're awesome! http://www.junkmarketstyle.com/item/16387/de-light-ful-serving-piecesinspired-by-shabby-chick

snowyowl - hoping to see pics of your projects too!

Re: De-Light-ful Serving Pieces...Inspired by Shabby Chick...

Laurel - you really did those serving dishes up right (and I bet the treats WERE tasty as well)! I'm sure you got lots of compliments from your friends too.

My favorite is the one on the silver base - but, they're all so sweet! I love how we inspire each other and then come up with creations that show our own style.

Very nice job! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Sue & Gretchen! I know I'm gonna be dragging you all out here one of these days!!!

Gretchen - we have definitely made the transition into more neutral tones, and more silver/metal pieces - and everybody's liking it (and buying it). It seems like a more aged look - and can fit in with any color someone decorates with.

Sue - just call me "pics-r-us" - I've definitely got 'em!! :)

Take care, Kathy

Re: "FALL"ing for the Springfield Extravaganza - Part I...

Thanks all! It was a great weekend, and we had fun setting up our space (except for the late night - had to use a floodlight from one of our "neighbors" so we could finish! We really should have just slept in our truck (it was almost midnight when we finished!).

Sharon - hope to see you there next year (and lots of others too)!

Alice - I checked your blog - love the angels! :)

Candy, ol buddy ol pal - we definitely need to talk!!

texasjunkermom - I'm not sure about the cloche... I looked at some on ebay (great place to get an idea on prices - saw an antique one (16" tall) starting to bid at $49 - and $20 for shipping...) so that price might be a little high if it's a new one??? - anybody else know??

Lani - I'm sure if the Grizzly would have gone shopping - he'd get be able to deal on some great prices!! And be able to carry heavy furniture too...a junk hunk!! :) (Lani - I'm all for a get-together!!)

Janis - thanks about the pic - I thought I needed something new - it may change again - not sure...haha!

Have a great week!! (and stay tuned for Part II)

Kathy

Challenge #1,325 or so it feels like, right?? They just keep coming and you keep pulling another awesome project out of your "challenge" hat!!

Your vintage frame is very cool - and I love your choice of paint color too. The door knobs really finish it off!

Keep up the good work! And good luck in Philly!

Kathy

Re: My Simple Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday Project!

OK Lani dear...your "simple" tables and their style are over the top cool!! Not sure which is my favorite - oh heck...I think I love them all the same!

The little table rise is super cute! And, what a great repurpose for that chandelier - it makes an awesome table! And, yes the chimney cap is probably the icing on your simple project "cake"!!!

Loving it all, my friend!

Kathy

Sharon...would love to have an Ohio event...! I know there are a lot of Buckeye Junkers out there...and surrounding states too...right Midge, LuAnn??? Others?

It's definitely a great way to make new junking friends, and meeting in person is just way too much fun!!

Kathy

Re: Serving up a "light" snack - vintage junk-style!

OK...you're all gonna make me blush! :) Thanks for your comments - ya just gotta love those super simple projects that put on a great show AND have a purpose in their new life as well!!

The junk potluck was a huge success (and so was the blog party) - thanks and congrats to Amy & Co. for all their hard work! And thanks for bringing us all together - everytime I look at the pics...there's a new memory...

Just a note...In your search for lamp bases, be sure to pick something that will hold up to the weight of your light fixture - you don't want it to be top heavy. These two pieces were surprisingly well balanced in weight and size. And, if a finial won't hold it together...I bet a little Gorilla Glue would do the trick, and then place something decorative over the hole to cover it up.

Take care, Kathy

Re: Just another trash day in the neighborhood

Re: Freeby :-)

My vote is coming in late, but I also vote for painting (and distressing). And, I think a marriage of pieces would make it spectacular.

I could also picture it as a potting table (with a window and some architectural pieces attached for shelving...) - and the drawers would provide great storage for tools, pots, etc... One of the large drawers could be pulled out and the space used as a shelf - to display pots, garden junk, etc...

Or, a drawer or two could be pulled out (for components to fit in), and it could be used as an entertainment center.

OK - stopping now - let us know what you come up with - can't wait to see pics!

Kathy

P.S. Don't ya just love "free"? :)

Jan - can't wait to see your cloche!

Midge - I'm going to do a post on my blog - so will let you know and you can see the finished chandelier.
