Kathy Stantz, Junk Heaven , OH, USmember
I was born to junk - always begging things from my grandma, and collecting rocks and avon bottles when I was little... I refinished my first piece of furniture when I was 18 - and havent stopped re-doing things since...
My friend, Terri, and I buy old furniture and great vintage junk - and paint, repurpose, etc. - and resell it at some fleamarkets in Ohio, and a few customers in central Ohio - we have a blast - always on the hunt for something! (Would love to quit my day job and do it fulltime!) We take girl trips (or junkets) every summer with two of our bestest friends, and have traveled into Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana - and of course - all over Ohio - one of our most fun trips was the Worlds Longest Yard Sale (250 miles thru Kentucky/Tennessee) four years ago. Next year, were planning on the 200-mile sale in Michigan (see you then, LuAnn!!).
My hubby is fairly understanding of my addiction - but says well never be able to move - too much stuff (I think not!!). My daughter shops my basement when she comes home to visit...(shes her mothers daughter for sure!!).
My personal style is cottage/beachy/shabby chic - with a little of this and that mixed in... I love to garden and am a collector of many things (my friend says if you have three of something its a collection - so...yep, Ive got a few!) Of course my favorite thing to do is hunt for additions to my collections (and pieces of interesting junk to play with) at fleamarkets, garage sales, thrift stores, antique shops - and sometimes its just dropped at my doorstep (friends and neighbors - gotta love em!) I collect pottery (mostly white - Haeger, Hull, etc.), vintage beach stuff - especially beach oil paintings, vintage jewelry, child-size chairs, and lots of other stuff! :)
Love the JunkMarket (aka Junkaholics Anonymous) - a great support group for junkaholics - HOWEVER, were not looking for a cure - just a whole lotta support!! Thanks to Sue for throwing us together.
God Bless!
P.S. Just a thought...
Junkers Creed
This is actually the creed of the postal service, but I think it fits SO perfectly for us junkers...
And neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night, nor the winds of change, nor a nation challenged, will stay us from the swift completion of our appointed rounds. Ever.
Aint it the truth??? Have a great day & happy junking!

Re: How To Make A Santa Snow Globe
Kimberly,
posted: 9:29 am on December 18thWho doesn't LOVE Santa Claus??? And you've "captured" this one in such a fun way! What a great project for kids (definitely with adult supervision, right??). You've given us great instructions on the "how to" of this project. And, the possibilities for different "subjects" is endless...snowmen, angels, birds, cartoon characters, super heros - (and speaking of super heroes (in our junk world) how about a mini-Sue with a piece of junk in one hand, and Gorilla Glue in the other)... Thought I'd get a laugh from Miss Sue!!! :)
So, in the spirit of the holiday and winter season - I've chosen this as my FAVORITE project by my friend Kimberly!
During our trip to "Minnesnowta" this past summer, Candy and I had the pleasure of meeting some of our JMS contributors and members, and we got to spend some time (not enough though...right Kimberly??) with Kimberly. She and her mother-in-law graciously hosted us on their boat one evening - where we shared lots of laughs, a sunset and a wonderful lakeside dinner. In addition to helping to entertain us, she was also having a garage sale the same weekend - which we of course had to visit and shop a bit! (And, yes...there was some awesome "junk" there!)
It was so much fun getting to know Kimberly and the Minnesota gang... It's a great memory, and a reminder...we have to plan for next year!!!
Looking forward to more of your clever projects - and your great junk style in 2010!
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year my friend!

Thanks All! We always have a blast at this show (even if we had to do a "speed" set up on Friday). We ran out of space, and had boxes of great stuff we couldn't even put out (so...guess we're more than ready for January!).

So, I know this will be of tremendous help to you in deciding what to do with it next...(no charge for this service - ha ha).

Just a note...In your search for lamp bases, be sure to pick something that will hold up to the weight of your light fixture - you don't want it to be top heavy. These two pieces were surprisingly well balanced in weight and size. And, if a finial won't hold it together...I bet a little Gorilla Glue would do the trick, and then place something decorative over the hole to cover it up.

Janis - so lovely!!! You gave your lamp such a beautiful new life (with a bit 'o' bling" too). I like to reuse small lamps too - yours is so elegant!

Re: Freeby :-)
My vote is coming in late, but I also vote for painting (and distressing). And, I think a marriage of pieces would make it spectacular.
posted: 11:23 am on September 1stI could also picture it as a potting table (with a window and some architectural pieces attached for shelving...) - and the drawers would provide great storage for tools, pots, etc... One of the large drawers could be pulled out and the space used as a shelf - to display pots, garden junk, etc...
Or, a drawer or two could be pulled out (for components to fit in), and it could be used as an entertainment center.
OK - stopping now - let us know what you come up with - can't wait to see pics!
Kathy
P.S. Don't ya just love "free"? :)
Re: simple monday fix to unfinished project ;)

I love how you're using the chicken feeders - a nice rustic touch! I've got one that I've been using as a planter (I planted impatiens in it).

Geo...I say go into mass production honey!! - ha ha!!! :) I think people will love them! (we actually did three different sizes today) (and I also thought they'd look cool hung from chains in a grouping - maybe with a big crystal hanging in the middle of them...?????)

Midge - I'm going to do a post on my blog - so will let you know and you can see the finished chandelier.
