Hey, yall!

I am a 30-something mother of the best 15 year old boy EVER and wife to my middle school sweetheart (after a 20 year break). My son and hubby, aka honey-britches, graciously help me by lifting the heavy stuff and all other manner of junking chores, e.g. chauffeuring me to yard sales, thrift stores, flea markets, etc.

In real life, Im a respiratory therapist turned court clerk. Yes, I did one of those mid-life drastic career changes. Needless to say, working for county government doesnt make millions so my love for creativity comes in handy when I get a hankering for something new.

Ive always been creative and frugal so I guess junking is just a part of who I am. I love to tell my best friends, the Magnolias, how much, or rather, how little, I spend on things when they compliment them. Of course, when its gift giving time, be it birthday, Christmas, etc., they tell me that, if I didnt make it, it doesnt count. No pressure, right?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Gonna be on the lookout now for an old trowel.

Re: guitarman 2

Just had to show this to my 16-year-old budding musician and he loved it!!! Gonna have to make a trip to the thrift shop for some cheapo silverware. Great job!!!

Re: Finally on Frog

Great makeover!!! The next time I see these at a yard sale, I'll have to pick them up. You've given me inspiration!!!

Re: Today is Her Birthday! So Here's Her Pallet pleasing project.

This is awesome! Love it! What a smart bride to have you make this for her.

Re: Globe Lamp and Recycled Sconce Bookend

Love this! I keep looking for a globe at yard sales, thrift stores, etc. but haven't found one yet. When I do, I'm soooo copying this! :-)

I really love this! Such a happy little shed! Just looking at it makes me want to do something creative!

Re: A junky birthday for Miss "G"!

I agree!

Re: Glammed up lamp shade...

Thanks, y'all! Decoupaging tissue paper is the easiest thing to do! I love it!

Re: Free to Fabulous!

Thanks, y'all. I LOVE free stuff! This project turned out to be really fun. It was my first attempt at decoupaging anything big. Turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would.

Re: Kitchen & Breakfast Nook Makeover ~ part 2 ~ the breakfast nook

Thanks for the compliments, ladies. They mean a lot. Annebell, thanks for seconding my opinion on the "fence". My hubby liked the ugly thing but all I could think was shag carpeting and avacodo green appliances. hee,hee

Re: Kitchen & Breakfast Nook Makeover ~ part 1 ~ the kitchen

Thanks, y'all! Annebell, my hubby cut the space out in the upper cabinets. I think he did great. We put plexiglass in them since it's so much simpler to work with than real glass with the thought that, if we didn't like it, we'd go with the real glass. So far, we're loving the plexiglass.

Re: Can you feel the islands?

I am so jealous of your alleys! Great paint job! Makes me happy just looking at it.

How do you crackle with Elmer's glue? I don't know that trick.

Re: The alleys provide again!

Alright, now I'm reeeaaallly jealous!!!

Re: The alleys provide again!

Holy smoke, I'm jealous!!! This is precisely why I have a Jeep; there's no telling what you might find! Isn't it just amazing the things people throw away? I love the buffet!!!

Re: Keep Calm Cupboard Doors

I LOVE THESE! Please, please, please let me copy again! I have gotta make a fish one for my son. His birthday is in March and this will be so cute in his "fishing bathroom". This is definitely one of those posts that I read and think, "Why didn't I think of that?" I'm sure they both loved them and send your brother a "Rock On" from me! \,,/ (My son says that's the rock on sign via keyboard. he,he)

Re: Gifts made by my 10 yr old

I too am the mother of a little boy and, it's moments like this that you realize how much they've learned from you. These are so beautiful and I know the gifts meant so much more because he made them. You're a lucky mom with a lucky son!

Re: I just couldn't help myself...

Thanks so much! That's so cool!

Re: Old Family Farm Drop Leaf Table Turned Into Wall Art

I hope it's ok that I borrowed your idea. I just had to. I loved this so much and the saying that's on it that I knew I needed to have one too. I have a 15 year old son that needs to be reminded to "behave out there". Thanks! Kellie

Re: Budget Cabinet Makeover!!!

Junkredeemer, I am indeed a South Carolinian! We're in Lexington but have a log cabin down in the woods outside of Livingston. You may not be able to find that on a map:-), it's in Orangeburg County. Yay, I'm so glad to find another "Carolina girl" on here!

Re: [WRECKAGE] Cabinet

Jim, I have a few old doors that we've pulled from the barn with a lot of chippy paint. Hubby says they're really old. How do you determine if the paint is lead-based? I'd like to repurpose them into a bench and a cabinet but wondered how/if you do this first. Thanks, in advance, for the advice.

Re: I Love Junk Market Swaps!!!

I agree with Sue. These pieces are amazing and I love the frame! I'm a sucker for old photos and yours will look great in that frame.

Re: Wreath Holder

Too cute! I love it!

Re: Quick Chair Makeover

I have a chair almost just like this one that I redid too and I love it! Maybe a bright colored cushion in a stripe pattern. Love this color! It's a happy color.

Re: Trunk and suitcase display

I love this but I have a serious question. Everytime I find an old suitcase like these, they stink. They always smell musty or like mothballs. How to you get that smell to go away?

Re: Vintage Glass Snail Garden Totem

I love this! I thought the base was a glass pumpkin! Love the mix!

Re: Our Kitchen Island Transformation

Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! You did a great job!

Re: A Holiday Show-Stopper for Sheri

OMG, this is gorgeous!!! I would buy one of these in a heartbeat! I've never seen any as beautiful as this in a store. Great, wonderful, fantastic job!!!

Re: Budget Cabinet Makeover!!!

Thanks for the positive comments, y'all. This project was certainly a labor of love. A lot of work with very high expectations for the end result. They actually turned out better than I'd hoped. I love this website, the ideas I get one here, and the people I've "met" on here. Ya know, you can learn a lot about a person by checking out their "junk". :)

Re: Can you find the paint stirrers?

Thanks y'all for your comments. I love paint stirrers. The only problem is I never want to use them to stir paint because I hate to "dirty" them up! :)

Re: A "J" for Jan's Birthday!

Thanks everybody for your comments. I had fun making these and, Miss J, I'm so glad you love them!!!

Re: WE MADE AN UPHOLSTERED HEADBOARD!!!

Thanks everyone for your positive comments! Christina and I really appreciate it. I always tell my hubby about the commentary left on JMS but Jim, when you commented, I told him, "You don't understand. He's an ARCHITECT and he complimented our design!!! That's a big deal!" Thanks again to you all.

Re: Repurposed Folding Rulers

I love this! Gotta be on the look out for old rulers now.

Re: HELP!!!!

It's a beautiful frame. I would make a simple box, add some shelves and/or little cubby holes and use this as the door for an elegant hanging curio cabinet. You may not even need to paint it but, knowing me, I probably would. You might not even have to make a box if you could find an old drawer with similar dimensions.

Re: Shabby chic bookcase for $3.60!

Thanks y'all! I didn't have any molding on hand so the wainscoting came in handy. You're right timshappy wife! If he's not home, he can't say no, right? hee,hee

Re: From ugly duckling to beautiful, er, eagle?!?

OOK, I had the same problem with the photos being too big but I finally figured out a way to make them work. Here's what I do:
1. Go to "My Pictures".
2. Highlight the photos you want to post.
3. Right click and click "send to", then click "email". This will open an outlook email with the photos attached. Don't worry, you're not sending an email though.
4. Once the email comes up with the photos attached, right click on the 1st photo, click open.
5. Once the photo is open, click file (upper left corner), click make a copy, choose small or medium and then save to a folder in your photos.

I made a file named "smalls" just for the small versions of my photos. This will not alter your original photo. It's just a copy.

Hope this helps.

Re: Happy Falloween to All

Sue, I want to be you if I grow up! (Notice "if", not "when") lol

Re: Upcycled Armoire

Absolutely beautiful! You did a great job!

Re: Tell me whatcha think... I need an idea.

mimi_Redo,

I hate to say that I haven't done anything with it yet. I've been a little slack lately and haven't done much that requires leaving my nice air-conditioned world but, when I do, I'll be sure to post photos. Maybe soon, I think the high's only gonna be in the low 90's this weekend. ;-)

Re: How To Resize Photos

Find the photo, right click, sent to, email. Once it's an attachment, double click on it, click file, make a copy, pick the size (small), save to "smalls" folder. No danger of accidently changing your original and super fast.

Re: Kitchen junk lamp

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!

Re: It may be junk, but it always "...yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither." Psalm 1:3

Oh, just wanted to say that I don't just leave the throw pillows on there. I use them just like you would foam. I cover them with whatever I'm using for fabric. If you use a pillow that's a little too big, you can pull it over the sides a little and staple it underneath. That keeps the edge of the plywood from digging into your leg when you get up from the chair.

Re: It may be junk, but it always "...yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither." Psalm 1:3

I use throw pillows I buy at thrift stores because they're usually $1, I can throw them in the washer with hot water and the thrift stores usually have them in every shape and size imaginable. They work perfectly! Your chairs look great!!!

Re: Mary Contrary's Garden

I really like this! Very nice!

Re: What did I do wrong???

I would put a poly-stain on the top. This will help to even out the wood's color and also make it easier to clean. I'd certainly try this before going for the paint since you worked so hard to get the paint off and don't seem to really want it painted. If it still looks like poo, you can always paint over it then (although I don't think you'll need to).

I'd mod podge a pretty paper, napkin, map, tissue paper, whatever on the front of the drawer and maybe add a funky knob.

Then, you could either poly-stain the bottom or paint the bottom a color to coordinate with drawer front.

Re: Homemade Child-Sized Coat Tree - My First Design EVER!!!!

I really love this! You did an awesome job! I'll definitely put this on my "to do" list but I'll have to wait for grandbabies before I'll have little ones again (which should be a l-o-n-g while since my son's only 15). :-)

Re: Jewelry from magazines?

These are gorgeous and you'll never run out of material. Awesome idea!

Re: Ohhhhh Say Can You See.....

What a cute idea! I'm sure your friends were pleased with their gifts. Love it!

Re: Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day to you too, Jim and everybody else too! My family has a flag too that the U.S. Gov. gave to my Grandmother when my Grandfather died, after his service in Korea. I just hope that one day my son will "get it" before he gets it. he,he

Re: Church Pew Rebuild

I agree with Sue! I love these! Wish I had one or two or three...

Re: Great Grandma's Chair to Mom's Chair!

Gorgeous! Love it!

Re: HoJo's Menu

This is great! I'd never even heard of HoJo's but I still love it! I LOVE your creations!

Re: Right up my alley!

This is too cute! I love it!

Re: Cardboard Magic

I think it's great! Instead of asking his parents to buy him a cabinet, he made one of his own! Awesome!!!

Re: Pillowcase Art Treasure!

Donna, I agree with you 100%! I miss those days. That's why it's so important to keep these little reminders around. He makes me happy!

Re: Happy Father's Day Eve!

I'll second that "Happy Father's Day" to all the Junker Dads and I love your bottles. I too remember bottles like these when I was probably the age of the children on them. Does anyone remember Creomulsion cough syrup in the glass bottle with the little girl and boy at the top? Funny how that's the one I remember distinctly.

Re: Repurposed TV Armoir

Beautiful!

Re: Carmen Miranda

OMGosh! This is so funky! I love it! I never would've thought to make something like that but now I think I have to have one. Awesome job!!!

Re: Tre Verde

BTW, the ones in the garden shops that are crazy expensive aren't nearly as pretty or as well built as yours.

Re: Tre Verde

You did an awesome job on this! I've seen these before in garden shops and they are crazy expensive! This makes me really long for a screened in porch just so I'd have a place to put it.

Re: Smokers pots or planters

What a beautifully fantastic idea! I love these, especially the one with the little birdhouse on it. I'm bookmarking this for Mother's Day next year. I only hope I can make one half as cute as yours. Thanks for sharing this idea. Love it!!!

Re: End Table Repurposed

I love this! I'm sitting here right now thinking, "Who has a daughter I could make this for?" My family is full of boys!!! Oh well, they need to learn how to work in the kitchen too. hee,hee Awesome job!!!

Re: Bicycle inspired office chair

Love it! You're hilarious!

Re: Decoupaged Map Buffet

This is lovely! My mother in law has a big stack of old National Geographic maps in her attic and now I know what I can do with them and I have the perfect table to try it with. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful project.

Re: A Vanity Just Like Grandma's - my 1st post!

Thanks y'all! Your positivity makes me wanna go out to the workshop and go crazy with projects! I can't wait to start the next one. I have so many things I wanna do that I think I might've seen my hubby cringe a little last night when I said, "I'm going to see what's new on JMS." He knows that will soon be followed by, "Honey, look at this. I wanna do that!". Bless his heart.

Re: Tea Cup Gardens with a "grow" Light

This is so cute! If you don't mind, I want to copy this. What kind of bit do you use to drill the hole in the cup?

Re: Thinking Big!

I LOVE this! My honey-britches just informed me that he has 6 old doors in the barn too! woo-hoo! Where do you buy your foam? There's a fabric store here but the foam is super expensive ($12/ft for the 4 inch). Is it that way everywhere or have you found a better source? Thanks!

Re: I'm Really Getting Into Leather!

This is so pretty! I would've had to google that too!

Re: Divalicious desk chair!

Just noticed that the fabric on the seat is going sideways. Oh well, it was a remnant so I had to use it however it would fit. I bought the fabric for another project I haven't finished yet. I might play with that one tonight. Ooh, I can't wait to get home from work to do that.

Re: Tell me whatcha think... I need an idea.

Lakelover69, I'm so glad to see we're neighbors! I'm gonna find your shop and stop by sometime. Too funny that we both have regional references in our names, even though I did notice some icky Clemson stuff in one of your posts. Just kidding!!!

Re: Tell me whatcha think... I need an idea.

degrees outside!

Re: Tell me whatcha think... I need an idea.

Thanks everybody, I love the ideas! I think I'm gonna play with this table this weekend even if it's 100

OMG, I so love this! For $5? And the sachets too? I wanna be you when I grow up!!! hee,hee
