I like to use real candlelight whenever possible. In the warmer weather when we move outside, this is even more enjoyable. Have you ever tried to burn taper candles and either you can't keep them lit, or the wax just runs everywhere?
To correct this, I get out a votive glass and Gorilla glue a section of a dowel the same diameter of the chandelier candle holder, and now we're ready to burn! The votives are draft resistant and provide nearly the same ambiance of a taper. When we move back inside, I can either use the votives or the taper candles, whatever.

Candlelight inside and outside is the best. Nothing adds more atmosphere to a meal or a conversation than this.
Enjoy.

I, too, love using old chandeliers to cast candlelight over everything. I love the solution you came up with for changing the tapers to votives...........that spring/summer wind is always putting a damper on my plans for candle light outside!!!

I will have to hurry before summer really gets here or the candles will melt! I love it.
