We recently designed several mail holders from old shutters we had gathered.  We promoted them at our holiday show as a way to display Christmas cards, but they can serve their purpose year-round.  We applied thin press board to the back, so mail would not fall through.  To this one we added the top of an old tarnished silver butter dish as a tray to hold keys, pens, etc.  The silver knobs were added to serve as key holders and the old silver buttons helped fill the space on the ends.
