Artist's Make-Up Case
August 24th, 2008 in projectsBeautiful color palates and exquisite brushes are the tools of an
artist, be the medium canvas or otherwise. All you will ever need to create a
masterpiece is held within this vintage case with a new purpose.

Materials:
Vintage
wooden artist's case
Old fabric or vintage wall paper
Seam binding or ribbon
Hair band
Old handle or drawer pull
Glass knobs (for feet)
Tool List:
Screwdriver
Straight edge knife
Wood finish
Krud Kutter
Light sandpaper
Decoupage glue
Method:
Step 1: Remove all old
hardware and seam binding (holding open the lid) from artist's case.
Step 2: Clean case with
‘Krud Kutter' or soapy water.
Step 3: Lightly sand all
rough edges.
Step 4: Apply wood
finish.
Get as much of the old paint off as possible before applying the wood finish.
Step 5: Measure and cut wallpaper to fit inside top and bottom of case.
Step 6: Adhere with decoupage glue, following directions on bottle. Wet sand when dry for a smooth finish.
Pick a bright fabric to complement the newly brightened wood.
Step 7: Measure and cut new seam binding to hold lid open. Replace inside where old binding was removed.
If the old binding is still in GREAT condition, leave it. Ours was not.
Step 8: Add new glass feet to bottom of case.
Any small knobby thing will do--drawer pull, cupboard handle, etc.
Step 9: Screw on new/old handle on front of case.
Ready for a night on the town? No? How about an afternoon at the flea market?
After you make it, show it off to other members in the Member Junk area.
