I was originally going to use it for plants...but no! Not on that beautiful wood! The shelf refinished a lot better than I thought it would.
I decided that a dried flower arrangement would be much easier on the finish.
I found some old drawer pulls that fit perfectly into the holes where the spindles screwed together between the shelves.
Side view. The drawers were in pretty good shap so I stripped those and use them to hold things like guest towels in the bathroom.

I just love those old iron sewing machine stands! Here is a finished project that includes one along with a refinished shelf from one of those dark Mediterranean style shelving units that were popular in the 1970s.
