A cast iron sewing machine pedal is the perfect solution for my daughters bedroom when it comes to keeping track of her party invites, to-do lists and even to hang her jewelry.  A girl has to keep things organized, dontcha think?
The pedal came from a vintage WHITE sewing machine found at a local Goodwill for $20.  The cost included the dust and dirt.
I kept the rod attached to the pedal since it was just the right fit for the center of the stacked barbell weights used for the base of the organizer.
The base of the organizer consists of approximately 25lbs. of rusty black free weights that were, you guessed it...FREE!  Just stack them up, insert the cast iron rod on the pedal and youre in business.
Maddys pen has a special place to hang out.

By combining only a few elements, you can make a "cool" organization piece for your workspace...or your 9-year-old daughter's desk.

Did you make this?

bubbasmom writes: Oh my,I think that is a great idea,BUT it also looked beautiful as a sewing machine pedal too (on the machine.)lol .I love the antique machines and would have restored it as a piece of furniture if it wasn't totally falling apart. There are so any things you can do with the rest of the pieces parts too though. It's beautiful wood. Nice job though you are definitely very creative. Posted: 11:40 pm on February 6th

JunkArchitect writes: Candy, what a great combination of colors, materials and junk parts you’ve put together to form something so functional. The only thing I get out of my kids when I build something is “cool dad”, which I take as a huge compliment. Posted: 3:09 pm on January 31st
Junk_Sophisticate writes: Thanks everyone! My daughter wasn't home when I made this, but as soon as she opened the door to her room she let out a big squeal. She loves it and that always makes junk-making more fun!

SweetMelissa and MelHow - You're right. There are a lot of usable parts left. Most are still stacked up in my living room waiting to be put to good use. See the crossbar connecting the two legs in the cabinet photo? When I removed it, it looked like a big "X" to me. It sits in front of the fireplace, right side up this time, and looks pretty cool.

Thanks again all! Posted: 2:44 pm on January 31st

SweetMelissa writes: Very clever! There are so many of these vintage machines out there but so often they are in poor shape and the only way to salvage them is to dismantel. This is a great use for the base. Love it!! What did you do with the rest??? Posted: 11:55 pm on January 30th
