Uncommon Objects - Austin,Texas
August 10th, 2008 in blogI love my job! One of its many perks is the opportunity to travel the world in search of cool junk. On the road to search and rescue, not only do I come upon awesome stuff, but I also have the plesure of meeting the minds behind the collections.
Steve Wiman's Uncommon Objects just may be my favorite store of all times. His tag line says it all; antiques, oddities, and curious goods, raw materials for creative living. Yes, indeed you will find all of these things and a whole lot more inside these four walls. I'm telling you it is a feast for a junker's soul! Can you tell I get excited just thinking about it?
Steve is amazing and has a one-of-a-kind eye for the unusual, and he's funny, witty, and charming to boot. He sells his own top notch wares at the store and also has 24 other purveyors of the good stuff, all showcasing their own individual styles.
What are the prices like? Like the selection of goods the price points are all over the map. What I'm trying to say is that there is something for everyone. Collectors, vintage shoppers, and junkers will all be happy campers after a visit to this candy store of found objects. Check out the website www.uncommonobjects.com for a sneak peek into Steve's world. He provides image after image of very inspiring raw goods. If you are ever suffering from creative block, hop on, take a look, and poof the block is gone.
If you find yourself in Austin don't miss Uncommon Objects! It's located on South Congress in the heart of the SoCo shopping district. If you're looking or a place to stayI highly recommend the Hotel San Jose just down the road from Uncommon Objects. It's a revamped motor court originally constructed in 1939. They have maintained its original charm while added an element of hip. They offer stylishly modern and comfortable rooms, patios for get togethers, courtyards, and much more. When I stayed there I found that i really had no need to leave the area. The food was awesome, a very cool coffee shop just next door, music across the street, and Uncommon Objects within walking distance. Seriously, what more could a girl want? Visit their website www.sanjosehotel.com for all the nitty gritty details.
I'll be there again in October if you want to join me! I can't wait to get back.
