The CABIN sign I painted and mounted between the skis

This project started when I found a pair of vintage skis tossed out for thrash pick-up. I was trying to come up with a concept for my son’s new Headboard and the skis were the inspiration I needed.

Using plywood pulled from a dumpster I painted the “Cabin” sign and mounted it between the skis. Then I installed a shelf so my son can display all his junk. The rest of the construction is made up of miscellaneous stuff in my shop.

LoniJacks writes: Love the bed. Great idea!! Love the Big Boy also. We had Kip's Big Boy restaurants here in Mesquite, TX. My daughter would always see the huge Big Boy outside. Great boys room!! Posted: 2:50 pm on September 25th
Junkpony writes: Very cool project - but the first thing that caught my eye was the Big Boy guy on the shelf - I thought those were just floating around Wisconsin! He was the symbol for Marc's Big Boy restaurants, which closed in the 60's or 70's I think. I thought they were only in WI, not sure. I have one too - he's a fun reminder of my childhood. (you could make your own chocolate milk at Big Boy - we thought that was the greatest thing ever!) Posted: 9:26 am on May 18th

THE OTHER THING I LOVE IS THE "BIG BOY" UP ON THE SHELF. THIS WHOLE ROOM IS GREAT! THANKS FOR SENDING THE PICS. Posted: 12:52 pm on January 5th

CottageElements writes: JunkArchitect, your projects are amazing! The signs you do look so original. I was telling my son about all your creative projects (the one who's going into architecture). I'm hoping he'll get the bug, too! As always, thanks!

JunkArchitect writes: Georgia, all my drawings are on napkins, Post-it-notes, my hand, bottom of an empty cup, the dirt on my car (once)…whatever is near by. If I planned one of these drawings I don’t think I could do it.
I’ll find some junk and it triggers an idea. Posted: 4:13 pm on January 3rd

Great work!

FunktionalJunk writes: This is such a great idea! I live near a lake and come across old discarded water skis all the time and I've always passed them over. Now I may have to start picking some up! It was also neat to see your work-in-progress photos...it really makes the finished project even cooler when you can see the humble beginnings! Thanks for the inspiration!
