Did you ever come across a damaged floor light stand, you know, the one with the sliding light fixture? I found the one on the left in a flea market, got it cheap, and then just removed the light and saved the cool base. Then I threaded a round piece of steel onto the top to make this pedastal, which displays a metal perforated swirl vase which when illuminated looks resplendent. The one on the right was first a good looking chunk of steel then married to a base plate and then a top plate to showcase this found cannon ball.
OK. Do you ever shop those import stores, Marshall's, TJ Maxx's, Ross's etc? I found this unusual base, a wavy piece of metal standing on this rock base, but the top had a flimsey birdhouse on it. I removed the birdhouse and found this carved wooden hand in the same store and screwed it to the base. The hand now holds a candle, small vase of flowers, etc. Strange.
Ya gotta love sewing machine bases and you can't get enough of them! Found this one (says "Weed") at a flea market still in it's original but broken condition as a sewing machine. Made a low offer and the dealer was happy to see it go and I was HAPPY to take it off his hands! Removed the broken sewing machine pieces, added some plumber's sink washers to insulate and secure this square glass top, which has now become this endtable.
Now I can't pass up these table bases, either. I find them, too, at the markets, garage sales, and shows. After a good price, I'll marry it to a round or square butcher block (from Marshall's, etc.), join some ice cream parlor chairs to it, to create this bistro set. Cappuccino anyone?
