Sorry if the photo looks a little blurry

A while back, my husband answered an ad on Craigs List advertising free wood, so he went to get some (we have a wood burning stove). He was disappointed that the free wood wasn't really firewood, more like old drawers and cabinet parts. Of course that didn't bother me because I knew I could use those pieces!

I believe this is an old cabinet door. I painted the mermaid on with white acrylic paint. The starfish is an old brooch. The mermaid's tail is some gemstone fragments I had on hand.

I've seen things like this on sale on Etsy and I really wanted one for my mermaid-themed bathroom, but I'm glad I made my own.

Except now instead of my dance mementos, it holds jars of shells and a book about mermaids.
