This custom mantle started with a discarded mantle skeleton of only the supporting boards.  I skinned it in old beadboard, made an interior shelf space, and gave the heater space new life with paint and antique ceiling tin.  There are several pieces of vintage yardsticks, vintage furniture trim, a vintage surveyor marker stick piece, and a vintage upright piano shelf.   This would be great as just a mantle or an entertainment center with flat screen on top and devices inside cubby.
