Components: Antique corbel, copper pipe, an old knob and tube insulator and some miscellaneous junk.
The stem is a section of copper pipe that was treated to form a patina. At the base of the copper pipe is an old doorknob escutcheon. Cloth covered wire is used for the power cord to give the appearance of a 19th century light fixture.
I had the chance to tour a house built in 1899 and found a pile of old knob and tube protective porcelain insulators. They were originally inserted into holes drilled through the rough framing of old homes. The electrical wiring was slipped through the insulator and this kept it from coming into contact with the wood.
I was dying to use one so I basically designed the lamp around the insulator.

Well it might not be its original intended use but this old corbel makes a cool wall sconce.

What a GREAT lamp and use for a corbel! This is so perfect for those places where you want light but don't have room for a table. Suzi is right, a LOT of people would want one of these...including me!!! You always add just the right vintage elements to make all of your projects special!!!

Love this one!
