These “goldtone” treasures are eclectically designed into funky necklaces.  I especially like the 24K gold diaper pin (were the gold diaper pins a sign of “wealth” back then?) and scissor with clip earring.
These chipped and rusty treasures include mini metal boxes, water spiggots and door harware.

The love of collecting small treasures that I stash in glass jars in my studio is the sunshine on this rainy day in Fargo

When you purchase or find the parts, I would do a "test clean" on the back first. Usually I just clean things with dishsoap and water - occasionally I use googone for sticky stuff.
You don't want to remove the patina, just the dirt. Also, after it's clean, you will most likely want to seal it with a clear sealer. Many of these items could possibly contain lead, cadmium, etc. Just be sure to use a sealer appropriate for the type of metal/wood or whatever it is. Posted: 7:11 am on June 14th
desertdiamonds writes: beautiful old treasures. i collect alot of old jewelry and hardware from the desert. what is the best way to clean old watch parts or any kind of old jewelry that has been in the desert for many years? it is usually black when i find it and i am too afraid to use many of the cleaners.
thank you
