NeatTweets Historical Landmark Replica Hellman Ehrman Mansion 1903 The Pine Lodge
February 12th, 2013 in member junkIn 1897 San Francisco businessman I. W. Hellman began buying property at Sugar Pine Point and in 1903 built his Pine Lodge at 2905 Lake Forest Rd Tahoe City, CA 96145. This home was considered to be one of the finest in the high Sierra owned by this former Wells Fargo president. This bird feeder is a replica of the Hellman Ehrman mansion on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. The feeder feeds about two gallons of seed right out the front door. The roof lifts off to easily fill the feeder.
Historical tidbits: Let’s start with the one two foot section of Aspen tree left by a beaver in the Truckee Area that I cut in half and used as my turrets which was my inspiration to build the piece. The roof pieces are beautiful shingles from the Sebastopol area. The entrance overhang and the square nails used as door handles date back to Luther Burbank’s Sebastopol farms of the 1800’s. The base and nails used for patio supports are from the historic 10175 West River Street home in Truckee CA. The doors and windows, well this is cask lumber from Sonoma County. Notice the top trim on the turrets, red wine crystallization is all over them. The back signature piece is from the historical Titus home in the Brickelltown section of Truckee. The Pine Lodge sign is wood from a market umbrella stay.
