I had a blast working on this new yardstick project.  It's my biggest so far.  My friend, Tracy, picked this table for me and it was in pretty rough shape from weather exposure.  The side laminates had to go and a whole lot of sanding followed.  Luckily the bones of the base were still strong but were still in pieces.  I gave the base three coats of chalk paint, the side trim 3 coats of silver paint, the underside 3 coats of chalk paint, and after applying all the custom yardstick pieces, four coats of poly.  Now it's strong as ever.  I left part of the underside exposed to show the original manufacturing mark.  "140 Coffee Table" with a California Union Made Stamp.  If anyone knows the history of this table, I would be thrilled.  I couldn't find anything.
