Here is Tia Star in her new Boutique with her new sign I just delivered. It will hang outside of her Boutique on the brick wall which should compliment it nicely!
Step 1 - After you have found a nice top you like, clean it up and then torch it! Notice the protective mask I am wearing. A- Its hot pink - sooooo thats a load of fun all in its own lol B- Id like to point out that men have to wear hot pink when working with fumes, and that just makes me snicker.  Back to the Work - soooooo, I torched it, just lightly torching the area in the middle into a star shape that will be only slightly visible when its hung.  Then I lightly sanded it and moved to the next stage.
Step 2 - I was given the logo on a little 5 x 5 inch draft print, with some tilted oval shapes around it. The designer suggested putting it on something oval when she gave it to Tia, so the table was a perfect fit after all! I roughly doodled the logo on with chalk so it  wouldnt set into the torched wood, then got out my cheapo little burner and burned in the outline of the logo.
Just a closeup of the burning in progress. I was asked if I used a laser burner, so, here ya go ..... nope... just a little $19 dollar home burner......
Step 3 - Paint.  I added a layer of camel acrylic, then sanded it up to add that rustic worn feel, then added a rust glaze I blended up from some reds and browns and washed it over the logo.
Heres a close up showing the burned edges and the final product with the glazing for a little age.
I then added an old hook to the sign, and created a tiny matching oval, flippable open and closed sign, using all the same techniques as listed in the previous steps. I also painted closed directly on the large sign, hidden behind the flip signage, so if she chooses to bring the little flip sign in at night, it will still let her customers know she is closed. The entire thing was coated in an exterior diamond coat for added protection

Each image hosts as much of a step by step as possible to help you try your own DIY table top sign. This was a fun project for me as I do love doing things when flames are involved. Not to mention, Im much more comfortable doing rustic than any other form of finishing.
