An island is a good thing...especially when it is a salvage project.
And a BLUE island is even better. I mixed the color from a bunch of samples I bought at a yard sale and the aged it with a watered down black stain.
This is what it looked like when I fell in love with it...as they say, love is blind.

The top was a mess, a beautiful mess.
This is a sample of the counter top material I bought home to see if I liked it, and I did but I knew I wanted to paint it.

And so I did. Paint it.
The blue color is fabulous!

I found this old cabinet at a junk shop in town the guy said it came from a really old bar (that smelled true). It was pretty beat up but just the right size. I snatched it up for $180.00 and took it home to live with it for a while...after a good cleaning. It fit perfectly in the kitchen but I couldn't decide what look I wanted and what kind of a top. This was a big decision to make. I found some old wood that would have been great but when I saw this salvaged counter top material. the decision was made. The is a manmade product that we think came out of an old school lab or something. It was big and had sink holes cut into it. And it is HEAVY. I loved the facts that is wasn't shiny and that is was free. We cut it to size with a slight overhang in the back so I can pull up the bench behind it and have dinner. As you can see it took me a few weeks...notice the ever changing bouquet.
