I got lucky and ran across this old wood top cage structure that I drilled a hole in the top of and assembled a pendant lamp.  My wife used an old burlap sack to line the interior of the cage structure for a nice accent in the room with a purpose (light!).
My son is following in my footsteps and loves to draw and get creative (my daughter too) so I decided to create an organizer for his markers and pens.  I cut some boards and made the box.  Then distressed, rust stained and paste waxed it.  Used applesauce jars glued to the backboard serve as the individual cubbies.
I used pieces from an old light fixture to create the handle.  I offset it from center to account for the weight balance when he has to carry it around the room.
We ran across this old mercury bottle already assembled as a lamp base in an antique store and threw on a new burlap shade for a quick lighting accent.
This old retail chip clip display we found in a thrift store was the perfect piece to go above the desk to hold school notes, clippings and whatever else as a messageboard.
We also used the canvas factory bin in the room that I created the wood top for in a previous post here on JunkMarket Style.  Its being used in the opposite corner of the room as a side table for a visitors chair.

In keeping with the rustic/industrial vibe we were going for in our son's room, here are some things we pulled together or created to bring the whole room together. The walls were painted with a tinted base, then a toned metallic finish to offer up a little light reflecting blue sheen in the room.
