From upside down in an alley to this...

The silver-plate and carnival glass bowls were alley picks.

I found this piece in an alley, with its legs sticking straight up out of a trash can. You can write your own jokes for that one.

When I rescued it from its near-death experience, I could tell it had some age to it. Though the wood had a good patina to it, the chest was missing one of its three drawers, another drawer was broken and repaired with Scotch tape, and a few of its joints had come apart. Still, its compact stature (only 29 inches tall, and a foot wide) and design appealed to me, and I knew my wife would love it.

So home it came. I glued and clamped the loose joints, removed a drawer support, cut a shelf (from alley-found plywood), primed, painted and distressed. I removed the small wooden drawer pull and replaced it with a vintage, alley-picked pull.

It's another island-inspired piece with a simple, but vibrant color scheme that brightens the room. And yes, my wife loves it.
