Before.  Hideous.
After.  Fabulous map table.
Before.  Hideous.

Before.  Hideous.

I found this table in the "free pile" at one of the local thrift shops.  Apparently, they thought there was no help for this one but I thought it had potential.  It had a leather top that had peeled almost completely off.

I cleaned it, peeled off the veneer, and sanded a lot.  The legs still didn't look great so I painted those and stained the wood that still looked pretty good.  I had a 1983 National Geographic map of the Deep South and, since I'm a South Carolinian through and through, it seemed perfect to decoupage on top.  I followed that with 3 coats of polyurethane and added a cabinet pull from my stash.  Now, I have a super cute map table that cost almost nothing!
