Reclaimed Materials Birdhouse Welcome Sign

Nothing's more fun than the challenge of what to do with left-over materials. This one started with, "what can I do with this chair seat with the funny offset hole?" This old leg fit perfect into the hole so now I had a base and a post. I painted the seat with my rusted metal finish and sanded and waxed the post; then glued and screwed the post into the hole in the seat. I had one left-over arm from a vintage chandelier that I had already verdi-gris-ed and added the rusty bobeche held in place with an aged brass cap. It's the perfect dish for a bit of birdseed. I don't like to leave things unfinished so I needed something to hang where the chandelier crystals used to be so I grabbed a scrap of rusty chain and made a two-sided chalkboard from a scrap of fiberboard. Then to finish the whole thing off, I handpainted the gazebo style birdhouse that I had purchased from garage sale. It's the perfect place for a tiny nest.
