About the Society

The mission of the Freshwater Society is to promote the conservation, protection and restoration of all freshwater resources.
Since 1968 – two years before the first Earth Day – the Freshwater Society has been a leading public nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving, restoring, and protecting freshwater resources and their surrounding watersheds. To achieve this goal, our organization:

Recognizes the vital role of freshwater to all living things and the impending crisis in the quantity and quality of accessible freshwater.
Dedicates its experience and resources to activities that lead to the understanding, protection, enhancement, and restoration of freshwater resources.
Invites the participation and support of individuals, associations, business and industry, institutions, educators, and government in these activities.

The Freshwater Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Well...we are at it again. The March show was amazing so as most of you know Otten Bros. Garden Center and Landscaping and JUNKMARKET Style are hosting JUNKMARKET Under Glass "Fall Edition". The Fall show promises to be even bigger and better than the Spring show. Many of the FABULOUS vendors from Spring are returning and will be joined by a talented host of "new to us" exhibitors. Don't worry! We're not letting go of our quality over quantity philosophy. This remains a true "juried" show with vendors (including vintage, antique, junk, jewelers, and artisans) who are among the best in their genre! We are all about good STYLE! We'll not only deliver a top notch "vintage market", but we'll have all the bells and whistles too! JUNKMARKET Style, along with Otten Bros. and our family of vendors will provide an overall inspirational experience including, "early bird" shopping, fresh concepts for your home and garden, breath taking interior design offerings. original ideas, creative projects, booth displays that will knock your socks off, not to mention oodles of product that is just plain cool. Wow...sounds good to me, but there is even more!

A fundraiser has been added to the schedule of events. The Freshwater Society, a national organization with its headquarters located in Excelsior, MN has graciously agreed to be our charitable partner for this occassion. The fundraiser is called the "Fresh for All Festival" and is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 2011 from 5 PM to 8 PM on the grounds of the main event. There will be a parking lot dance with music provided by none other than Lazy Ike and the Daredevils, a full blown, home grown Minnesota picnic with food generously donated by Peg's Countryside Cafe and Catering, a cash bar, door prizes, raffles, silent auction items, and more to be announced. It's getting better all the time. The cost for this event is $60 for two and $35 for a single ticket. JMS and Otten Bros. could not be more thrilled to host an event for such a worthy cause! I am asking a personal favor from all of you. If you are planning on attending the main event, please join us for the kick-off as well and keep our water "Fresh for All" I'm sure you will find it well worth the money. Proceeds from the Wednesday evening partay to benefit the Freshwater Society. To purchase tickets to the "Fresh for All" Festival click here. Tickets to the main event can be purchased daily at the door with a portion of the proceeds going to the Freshwater Society.

There's more...and I might need a little help with this one from all you members here at JMS. JMS editor, Lanette Lorsung, JMS contributors, Gretchen Schaumann and Laurel PUTMAN, and yours truly will be at the event and would love to meet you! Rumor has it that another editor from JMS just may make an appearance. Junk Architect a/k/a James Healy is considering making the journey to Minnesota. He has agreed to man the "Fresh for All Kissing Booth" if he is able to make it. Ah,hahahaha! I am in such trouble for saying that. Seriously, I know he would like to meet all of you as well and impart some of his "junk" wisdom. Please help me encourage Jim to come to the big show through comments on this post! Now I'm really in trouble. The pressure is on Jim!

As always, the knowledgable and friendly staff at Otten Bros. will be available to assist you with all your gardening and landscaping needs. They will also have plenty of giftables and accessories for you home that you can stylishly mix and match with your vintage finds.

I think that's it for now, but make sure to stay tuned for updates. I can't wait to see you!

Oopsie, doops, I almost forgot something. Imagine that! Pictures above not only include all of the information for the show and more on the Freshwater Society, but also a host of posters that we want your feedback on. Please let us know what your favorites are. Thanks!
