Before.  I have 4 of these and yes, they are all just this ugly. :-)
After.  The toile fabric was a drape I found at Goodwill.
I think they look really cute with my barrel table and chairs in the breakfast nook.
Another view.  I know the brown paneling is awful but its on my to do list.  hee,hee

I traded a bunch of Gamecock gear that my son didn't use anymore for a table and chairs.  As you can see, the chairs were really ugly.  (The table is too so it's in the workshop as a work table now.)

We have a barrel table and chairs in our breakfast nook, which is where my family almost always eats since I turned my dining room into a sitting room.  I really love my barrel table and chairs but these chairs are soooo comfy!  I just couldn't stand how ugly they were so this is what we did:

We took 2 of these chairs completely apart, cleaned the parts, Kryloned (is that a word?) the gold brassy parts, sanded and poly-stained the wood parts, washed the cushions (they were really gross) and recovered them, reassembled them and holy macadamia nuts, 2 "new" chairs for me and "honey-britches".

Now, that sounds all easy-peasy but let me just tell you, I put the first chair back together wrong 3 times, almost fell out of it, couldn't figure out what I'd done wrong (hence, the 3 times), then realized I'd covered the wrong side of the wooden bottom.  Of course, I had to take it all apart (which involved taking out about a gazillion stapes) and redo the process.  So not fun but worth it in the end.

I have 2 more that I haven't decided what to do with yet.  To be contined...
