Adding a view to my kitchenFebruary 11th, 2011 in member junk
These were originally frames for screen windows for our house but they were the outdated kind that you have to add a piece of trim to hold the screen in place. Rather than have all of them sit in th e basement forever I revamped them to add interest to our kitchen. I added thin mdf and cork to the frames because I was originally hoping to use them as bulletin board but I realized after the fact that the cork I bought was too thin for push pins. Instead I'm more pleased with them after adding grossgrain and silk ribbon to mke staggered french memo boards. I think it looks a little reminiscent of a garden trellis with sprouting art. I screwed in the corbels I found at the Elkhorn flea market from the back and attached metal brackets to the studs on the top and bottom of the frames to support the weight of the shelf I set atop the corbels. The board I used came from old bdroom closet that I updated, no cutting involved it was th perfect width! I can't wait til my son has drawings to post. You can see some of my treasures on display.. the platter I added an m cubed to, my old refrigerator basket that holds napkins, the scale I found at savers and my tea container.
