Let's make a junkified TWO

It was fun to customize a desired junk piece to suit for a change, rather than the other way around. This giant # TWO marries the crate stairway perfectly.
Why 2? It symbolizes my son and I plus I just like the look of 2s. :)
Simple found plywood drawn with a freehand chalk sketch started this project off.
And I used the bad side of the plywood in case I left it woodsy. The other side shone like brand new. Whadda way to wreck a junk item from the getgo...
Zip through the plywood with a simple jigsaw, sand the edges with a palm sander and you have yourself your work of art in the makings.
My choice of colour was antiqued white with black edges, inspired by an authentic old cow label I had on hand.
Hard to make out in the photos, but if you paint sloppy like, it works up a nice texture which grabs the glaze, aging the piece instantly.
The twos final home was on the stairway wall. Its made friends with all the other crate style artifacts, but is free to wander wherever the wind blows it.
The moral of this story? Just. Make. It.

Sometimes we can't find the junk we desire, so we have to make it.

I desired a giant TWO, so when I landed the perfect piece of scrap plywood, I set to work.

It was a really easy project and the price was right on the money. Free customized junk. Make yours today. :)

JunkArchitect writes: Donna, I seem to have the same junk dilemma as you. Sometimes you just can't find what you're looking for so you have to make it. Well ya done good with the GIGANTIC #2. And your staircase has turned into the most famous junk stair ever.

georgiamoon writes: The staircase is really great and the big TWO looks great with all the other rustic "junk" you have gathered. It's great that you have the talent to just make and distress what you want when you can't find it....gives it that personal touch! Georgia Posted: 10:18 am on November 14th
