It has a nice look that could easily blend in with many styles.  And because its on casters, it can go wherever you want it to!
The photos not good, but its the before shot.  Basic cedar box with trim at bottom and detailed feet.  It was stained brown with a simple design on the front. The back feet had been replaced with wood blocks and there were a lot of dings, but still very solid.
I tried to bring out the existing details on the front with white paint edges, chalkboard paint center, and the rest decoupaged with newspaper and dictionary entries.  I chose words like file, success, organize, paper, etc.
The inside is the best part.  I inserted metal rods for suspending hanging files.  And theres leftover room for other clunky office things.  When the top is open simply use the attached plastic keepers for calendars, unpaid bills, supplies, etc.
With the top back down, its the perfect height for seating!

I don't always try to get things for free, it just sort of happens.  But I'm glad it does!  My friend was trying to throw out her beat up blanket chest, she thought it had seen better days.  Well, it had, after living in a house with 7 kids!  But I tried to encourage her to keep it and explained that she could put it to good use with a little fixing up.  She wanted nothing to do with it, and told me to take it if I wanted, but she was tossing it out.  Well...you KNOW what I had to do....

So I brought it back to life and even made it a double duty piece! The black paint hides a lots of the imperfections.  I took off the trim, and added casters for a more contemporary look.  Borrowing from the sheet music decoupage trend, I used newspaper and dictionary entries to cover the area on the front. So it now serves as extra seating and as a portable home office.  Peace!
