The paint was white, so I just scraped and sanded the top and added 2 coats of a pink color and then 3 coats of white which I sanded down around the edges to let the pink show through a little.  Then I painted the mermaids and seashells. I had all the paints and other supplies so this cost very little. All that was left to do at this point was to add a little more antiquing glaze and then 2 or 3 coats of clear, matte lacquer.

I found this little table set out for the trash last winter. It had a mirrored top which was tarnished and shattered I spotted it and brought it in from the cold and removed the miror in pieces. I looked at it for months before deciding what to do with it.  Since I do a lot of artwork and painting I knew I was going to paint it but I needed a purpose and inspiration.  On a visit to my brothers beach house the purpose and inspiration hit me.  So...I came up with an "under the sea mermaids " theme, one blonde and one brown haired for his 5 and 10 yr old grandaughters.  It has taken me 3 yrs to work up the courage to post anything, but I was very happy with the way this turned out, so here it is!
