I originally bought this old trunk to use on a hall tree or coffee table. $9.99
You never always know what you get.  I noticed when sanding that this was not a normal built trunk. It was made with rivits.  I did some research to make the tray for it and found out it was a military footlocker.  Built for the 3 branches of service in 1943.  USN, USMC and USA. After I painted it I found raised letters saying Cole Mfg Co.  Old 63A  1943.  I am keeping it. as a storeage locker and shoe chest
Heres nmy new found storage in my closet!
This is the tray I made to replace the missing one.  As you can see, Im not a shoe model!  But it works for me!

You never always know what you get.  I noticed when sanding that this was not a normal built trunk. It was made with rivits.  I relooked at it and notices it had olive drab paint on the bottom.  The rest had a few coats of paint, spray paint and missing the tray  I did some research to make the tray for it and found out it was a military footlocker.  Built for the 3 branches of service in 1943.  USN, USMC and USA. (Pre Air Force.  Air Force was started in 1947).  After I painted it I found raised letters saying Cole Mfg Co.  Old 63A  1943.  I am keepin this one for sure.  I ceaned out the closet and a couple junk drawers of my personal treasures and "Voila"  New storage space and a shoe locker in one!  Just think of all the uses I can do in the future!!!!
