No, Thank YOU Sir!

The finished table.
What I came home with.
I cut off the ends of the mallets so there would be a flat surface because I later inserted them through holes in one round tabletop and screwed through a second tabletop into the mallet ends.  A third, nicer tabletop finished it off.
These were the goalpost thingys.  I cut them down and notched them for the center support piece.
Putting it all together was a little tricky, mostly because it was hardwoood and everything needed pilot holes.  But I decided to connect the pieces first before whacking into the 4 holes.  It seemed to work well.  And everything is held together nicely and seems to be straight and sturdy.

I couldn't have been more excited when I saw a free croquet set advertised on Craigslist.  However, I had no idea what it was like and the ad said it was missing pieces.  Still, I was willing to gamble on a carride to where it said it was sitting on their curb.  I was downright giddy when I rounded the corner and saw it.  I tried to act casual as I got out because the homeowner was working in the yard.  I yelled "Thank you!".  Then he started to explain that pieces were missing and basically was apologizing for it.  "Oh, no sir" I thought "THANK YOU!".  Even if they can't imagine it themselves, I so appreciate people who recognize that others may find value in what they have and are willing to pass it along.

So I took that awesome partial croquet set and made this adorable table -- something I've always wanted to try.  I'm very happy with the outcome.  And I still have a mallet, 5 croquet balls, and the adorable little cart (soon to be a planter of some sort).  Happy green week!
