you can't always get what you want...

this mirror was originally marked $20 and had been marked down to $10, so i could get it for $5 with the half off.  i thought i could hang it horizontally, but lamented that the detailing was only at the top.
and then i saw that there were 2 of them!  so im going to hang them horizontally unadorned end to unadorned end, after they are painted and glazed, of course.  they are 44 tall each, so that will be 88 of mirror-y goodness, which will span the entire bed and headboard.
i cant believe i got my mirror for $10!
center detail of mirror.  i so love it!
these little doodads are on each side of the top of the mirrors.
then i found this bench.  marked to $13, so i got it for $6.50.  its probably supposed to be a coffee table, but the legs are super sturdy as is the solid wood top.
its totally beat up and i love it.  not sure yet what it will end up looking like.  at first i thought paint and glaze, and then i thought of topping it with foam, wrapping it in batting and covering with fabric.  i guess well just see.

but sometimes you get what you need!  i've been talking with my mom about how i'd like a nice long rectangular mirror to hang over my headboard.  i think it would open up the room nicely.  we also talked about how nice a bench at the foot of the bed would be.

thursday, i read some reviews of local thrift stores, and one near my house didn't get very high marks, but i decided to check it out anyway since it was on the way home from work.  when i got there i wondered why the parking lot was so full.  i walked in, and EVERYTHING IN THE STORE WAS 50 PERCENT OFF!  off the marked price!  and they do this every thursday!  it was about noon, so i was sure that things had been picked over, but i went in anyway.  and then i found them...

just goes to show you never know!
