this is my room.  where absolutely NO majic happens. ;)  i got the duvet cover recently from amazon, and its been the jumping off point for me.
behind the head of the bed is a desk, covered in a spring green fabric.  on top of the desk is a great shelf from ikea.  ive wanted a headboard like this for a long time, and this is my test run for now.
but the fun is in trying to figure out what kinds of cool things should go in the cubbies and on top of the shelf. :)
top left and bottom right are the items on the top left of the shelf.  brown tower thing from hobby lobbys clearance rack, sitting on top of an old dictionary and theasaurus from goodwill.  joining them is a carved wooden elephant from kenya that was given to me by a former coworker.   behind all this is a great old wooden bat that i got today at a local thrift store where everything in the place is 50% off every thursday.  WOW.
top right and bottom left are the items on the right of the shelf.  the large vase was given to me by a friend who i helped clean out her father in laws house after his wife died.  she hated the vase and i loved it.  its got such wonderful blue and green colors.  the medium sized green vase i got at a thrift store this week for $2.50.  i was just really drawn to it.  i love its colors, its eclectic shape and how it looks with the larger vase.  the smallest vase i got today at the half off thrift store for a dollar or two.  i thought its blue would help to pull more blue out of the others, and i liked how its size related to the other two vases.
here are the contents of some of the cubbies.
counterclockwise from top left: a readers digest book with a pretty cover on top of a little cabinet i have had for a while; the brayers that i LOVE LOVE LOVE, the pattern tool that i love, and the old canvas tape measure that i adore, but gotta replace that twist tie on it!; 1975 Oklahoma license plate that my dad got me (i was born in 1975), an old radio (that still works) that belonged to my grandfather, along with his elephant bell, and the second elephant my former coworker gave me; the book cubby with my atlas and childs encyclopedias, my metal case filled with film reel canisters, and two cool old metal sewing/knitting/crocheting gauges.
please pardon the crappy lighting!
the top of this one gives you a closer picture of the whole shelf.
the bottom two pictures show the two nightstands.  the left isthe lamp i have no clue what im going to do with, and the right has the little lamp i love on top of another pretty readers digest book, along with my mirror that i only hung because a wall anchor was already there!  forgive the ugly candle warmer (i HAVE to have my room smell good) and a little frame bag from hobby lobby that i like but might not leave there.

i'm in the process of redecorating my bedroom.  this is the first time ever that i've ever really decorated.  before, i just bought what was cheap, or had hand me downs from friends and family.  i've finally found a style that i like, and i'm totally stoked to know i can do it on my own, on the cheap, and keep tweaking it until it's perfect (or forever, just because!)

in fact, i've already changed things since taking these pictures!  but not too much.  :) i figure i'll live with it all and see what i like and don't.

thanks so much for looking, and any feedback or comments!  :)  i'm ready to learn.
