Junkyard Dogs...the How and "Y"

This room has definitely gone to the dogs...in a good way. Inspired by Tanner, my beloved Red Heeler mix (rescued as a pup from an animal shelter in Texas), a few special pieces were added to this wall in our recent master bedroom makeover.
We started with this long expanse of a wall. We didnt want to add anything too bulky, because we want to keep a clear walkway through the space and maintain a light, airy feel. We also didnt want overwhelming colors. An easy, breezy, soothing palette was our goal.
This bench was the perfect fit here. It is about 10 feet long and a beautiful weathered blue-grey finish. This $5 garage sale score looks like a million bucks! And it provides the perfect spot for lacing up those shoes in the morning. The mirror is used for bouncing light around the room and for making sure everything is buttoned and zipped before heading out the door.
This yummy rusted Y brings some easy junk character to the space. It also bridges the height from the bench to the top of the mirror. The addition of a couple lanterns adds a new texture and some ambience.
The star of the show: Mr. Greyhound. Like Tanner, he is a rescued dog. However, he was found at Oronoco Gold Rush Days in Minnesota last August. This former bus sign, part of American history, now has a happy new home.
Love the details on this piece right down to the tail and feet.
A close-up of the front paws. Ca-ute!
A view of the whole shebang!
A quick little touch at the entry to the master bedroom. A vintage aluminum float as a doorstop. Perfectly junky and practical.
My favorite room in the house!

Who let the dogs out? They are running wild at WhisperWood Cottage! We recently made over our master bedroom. However, we still had one long, tall wall that needed a focal point. I wanted it to have a presence but not overwhelm the space. I also wanted to have a distinct junk feel but still be simple and elegant. Here is what I came up with!

JunkArchitect writes: Amy, you’ve created such simple and beautiful look in your bedroom…great job. Good thing I wasn’t at Oronoco because I would have bought the Greyhound logo in a second. That sign is so cool!
