This bench is made for usin!
I keep the top closed when not in use so the potting soil doesnt get dry and dusty.
I think this was a restaurant bus tub for dirty dishes. I screwed it in from the bottom.

This bench is made for usin'!

Not my original idea, but I have made a couple of these potting benches out of those ubiquitous sewing machine cabinets from the 50s-60s. I just had to slightly modify the hole  to access the space beneath and stabilize the hinged part of the platform.  The hardest part was finding the right size tub to hold the potting soil. For this bench I found one at a restaurant supply store.  On the other bench I added a shelf near the bottom for extra storage. Also added a chicken waterer to hold some tools.

SeaL9199 writes: Perfect. It's just what I needed. A smart solution for a potting bench/shed, because I have little to NO space. I struck a deal with the guy at a local thrift store. $10 bucks for the cabinet, but only if he took out the sewing machine. Of course, I will have to repaint. I will post my pics when I am done and give credit where it is due. Thanks for the idea. Posted: 12:58 am on June 8th
