When I spied this vintage guard rail, I knew it was just the right piece to hold my kids artwork.  With the lip at the bottom (or actually top), it holds them perfectly!
Before I put it up, I made sure I sprayed it with a good spray poly.  And there was nothing fancy done to hold it up.  I just used large screws, making sure they were drilled into the wall studs.
Wowzers!  Love the rusty patina on this piece.  What is it with rust and metal that is so appealing???  I dont know, but I cant get enough of it!
Another great use for the guard rail--ambiance!
Of course I have to show off my kids artwork!  My daughters is the one with the wild imagination (picture on the left).  My son is in college and contemplating a degree in art (one on the right).  Proud mama here!

While I hope I'm not be a Crash Test Dummy (some may disagree), I did fall in love with this guard rail when I spied it at an occasional sale in Minnesota.  There's not much project to it, just a little repurpose.  And I knew it would be perfect for an upstairs hallway that was just waiting for the right wall piece.

Did you make this?
After you make it, show it off to other members in the Member Junk area.

MimiToria writes: Lani - this is extremely creative to come up with this repurpose for a guard rail. I wouldn't of given it a second look, but you did and now you've got a wonderful area to display Becca and Zach's artwork. Love it with the candles too. Thanks for sharing as I've been trying to visualize what this would look like hanging on your wall. Needless to say my vision didn't match your execution. I had in a mind a shiny chunky silver guard rail like what we see in todays roads. The guard rail you came across is way cooler!

JunkArchitect writes: Lani, I would have bought the guardrail in a second. It’s one of the coolest pieces of rusty metal I’ve ever seen. Kinda pathetic that I get this excited over a piece of scrap metal.
Anyway, it looks fantastic on your wall...great repurpose. Jim Posted: 10:33 pm on May 25th
