Daybed out of Babybed

This is an antique baby bed that my mother in law gave me.  I decided to fix it up for my front porch.  It wasn't hard.  I just took the front gate off & rested it on the back, put a baby mattress on the springs, added the pillows & voila!

I used some foam padding for the seat, then covered it with an old quilt.  Then I got the baby mattress & put it under that, covered with an old lace tablecloth.  I made the pillows & they are reversible with americana on back.

My mom in law told me to do that with the pillows, but when I made them, I wasn't planning on putting them outside. They don't get full on wet, but get moist when it rains, so they might eventually need replaced because of mildew. Don't know, but if that happens, the next pillows I make I will put inside a garbage bag before sewing it up. Posted: 10:38 am on August 22nd
Joyful_Interiors writes: Oh! So gorgeous. You are blessed indeed. I just saw a babybed like that one, only brass, in a junk store. She wanted $500 for the bed. After seeing yours, I wanted it so badly but that was too pricey for me.
Looking forward to more........

Take care,

cirlam writes: Oh thank you! I was hoping it would be appreciated. My porch has been bare for about a year, because I didn't know what to do with it! I told my m-i-l that I was looking for some kind of daybed, but had NO idea that she had this sitting in her garage! She paid over $100 for it & it was just sitting there all dusty & covered with junk!

When I told her what I was planning on doing with it, she said, "Happy Birthday!". I live in a small town, but there is an antique shop on my block, so I went straight over there & bought the cutter quilts & old lace tablecloth. I had 2 pillowcases, embroidered with those little ladies on them, I put them in the middle of the front, but thought it was too much, so took them off.

I am just starting to re-use things & now I have so many good ideas, I can't wait to start on my other projects. Posted: 10:37 pm on August 20th
